Bathroom Review #3: Glasslands
September 29th, 2010by Ethan
We were at Glasslands (289 Kent St in Williamsburg) for the Twin Shadows show, which Austin was kind enough to document. As you can see from his coverage, the venue is ecletically and artistically decorated with crazy cloud-shapes over the stage and plant life everywhere. I was pleased to find that the bathroom (at least, the one near the entrance) is no less enchanting. Austin had the “real” camera to take pictures of the show, but I couldn’t resist whipping out my crappy phone camera.
Most importantly, about half of this bathroom is taken up by a locker-room-style shower. I explored it thoroughly, but could find no good reason for its existence. The tile floor is in pretty bad shape, so I doubt that it gets much legitimate use. The temptation to fuck with it must be well-nigh irresistible for drunken concert-goers. Somehow, though, this inclination didn’t even cross my mind in the moment. I wish it had, since then I would be able to report on whether or not the shower functioned. Perhaps there is some sort of psychic fuck-with-it damper installed in the room? That would make the most sense, I think.
Regardless of whether there’s alien tech involved, I’m quite intrigued by this. There is a network of pipes at the opposite end of the room, but these also lack any clues explaining their presence. There are bright-red abstract meta-clouds decorating the walls, and some ivy or something framing the toilet. The facilities themselves are clean and well-stocked, with a large supply of surplus toilet paper artfully arranged in full view. A very pleasant restroom, to be sure. I just wish someone would tell me what the hell is going on.
